Abilene High’s Alexis Wood and Rachel Pettijohn both set school records in finishing second and third, respectively, in the pole vault at the Districts 3/4-6A area track meet Thursday in Weatherford.

Both cleared 10 feet, 9 inches. But Wood, a sophomore, edged out the senior Pettijohn on attempts.

AHS teammate Calee Payne, a junior, was fourth (9-6).

“I was real happy with them,” AHS girls coach Rosemary Martin said of her pole vaulters. “They’ve done well, worked hard. Rachel, being a senior, she’s such a hard worker and a great kid. I’ve been telling her all season that before she leaves I wanted her to break the school record.”
