For the last two years, Lake View High School’s Veronica Diaz has flirted with the idea of competing on the ultimate stage for a high school track and field athlete — the UIL State Track and Field Championships.

Last Friday in Snyder, the senior vaulted into the conversation about who is going to win medals in the 2018 Class 5A girls pole vault competition.

With a clearance of 12 feet, Diaz has put up the best performance in our area so far this year. Last year at the state meet, 12-0 earned two of the medals awarded that day. With another three-inch improvement, Diaz would match what won the state title last year.
