August is here and before we get to that talk let’s celebrate the American Record break by Sam Kendricks. Of course, this an amazing feat in itself to accomplish. Sam jumped 6.06 meters which equals 19’10” and earns his 6th consecutive USATF Championship title. This would be the best outdoor clearance since 1994 when Bubka held the mark. This month we start to look forward to heading back to school, ending summer and starting your routines for the fall season. Most meets will be wrapping up and some clubs will break as they get prepared for strength and conditioning. Exciting times are amongst us
Kreager Taber writes about, “Athletes’ Efforts Shine in July’s Diamond League Competitions.” Shine is what they did as they clear big bars and bring the spotlight back to the sport of pole vaulting.
On the cover, we have Willamette Strider Track Club coach Rick Baggett. Rick is no stranger to the sport of pole vault and built his facility to train and host athletes. “Since then, the location has been a staple in the vaulting world, playing host to the likes of Alan Launder, Vitaly Petrov, and Thiago Braz.” Great read on how he stuck to his method of training when no one else was. Thank you, Samantha.
John Clark is back talking about consistency and confidence that coincides with your mental game. Two words that we use often at Vaulter Club are confidence and consistency, so we know the value and power that they hold. “I sailed over my first three bars at the now-closed Texas World Speedway, but when they raised it to 8-0, I started second-guessing my run, my grip, my pole – pretty much everything.” Good for you John, keep us updated and thank you for the hard work.
September we will spotlight and cover the recent American record break with Scott Kendricks and also speak with Rusty over in South Carolina. Stay tuned, it’s about to get crazy as we head towards Worlds.
