When Katerina Stefanidi and her coach and husband Mitchell Krier were looking for a place to train for the 2016 Olympic games in Rio, the SPIRE Institute in Geneva soon topped the list.

Yet buying a home on Butternut Road in Chesterland took some adjustment for Stefanidi, who is from Athens, Greece, and had lived in Palo Alto, California, and Phoenix, Arizona.

“Small town living was extremely foreign to me,” Stefanidi wrote in an email. “But after months of searching, we landed in Chesterland and instantly fell in love.”

Stefanidi won the gold medal in pole vault this summer, clearing 15 feet 11 inches. She was a NCAA champion while at Stanford University.
