FLOYDS KNOBS – Floyd Central senior pole vaulter Devon Montgomery is a young man with a goal – make that several goals.

A school record. Defending his Hoosier Hills Conference title. Improving on his sectional finishes – and finally – making it through regionals and competing for a top eight finish at the state meet.

Montgomery has the talent, and now he has the focus and drive to meet all of his goals.

“This year I’m specializing completely in the pole vault,” said Montgomery. “In the past I’ve run some 200s, I’ve long jumped before, but pole vault is the thing I’m best at, and I want to be the best at.”

With his final high school outdoor track season before him, Montgomery is reaching a level of focus that started as a sophomore. He was mature enough to see two years ago that going from part time to exclusive in the event would lead to success.
