Not exactly an event one goes into high school aspiring to do or knows much about.

But at Mason County, Abi Dawson has been thriving in the event. Dawson holds the indoor and outdoor school record, clearing 10-foot-6 and claiming second place at the indoor state meet this season and clearing 9-foot-6 at the outdoor state meet last year, earning a fourth-place finish and school records at the most important events of the year.

As she enters her final hurrah in track and field being a senior, Dawson said what got her into it was looking up to a former Mason County track and field athlete, Julia Woods (now Swolsky).
