From the first time Hunter Drops stepped onto a track in fifth grade, track and field became his sport.
He started then because his older brother had competed in track and he liked the variety it had to offer as a test of speed, strength and technique.
When Drops began track all those years ago, he started out in sprints, high jump and softball throw. He began pole vaulting in junior high and started throwing javelin in high school.
At Marshfield High in Coos Bay, the junior high track athletes practiced with the high school athletes.
