SHIPPENSBURG – All this time, one of the most talented scholastic pole vaulters in the nation was walking around with a “secondary” title.

East Pennsboro’s Payton Morris changed that narrative Friday at the PIAA Track & Field Championships.

Morris didn’t get to his magic number, but the University of Pennsylvania recruit didn’t need it to win the Class 3A gold medal at Seth Grove Stadium. Morris cleared 16-0 on his second attempt, enough to outlast Rustin’s Charles Dever in an engaging two-man final.
