Matching an all-time personal best in the process, Mooresville’s Spencer Evans turned in a second-place finish in his specialty event participating in the 29th annual New Balance Nationals Outdoors Track and Field Championship Meet.

Doing so at Mooresville’s Rocket Man pole vaulting training facility, Evans crafted a perfectly clean score sheet and cleared a height of 16 feet, 5 inches for his next-to-the-best showing in the pole vault event.

The distance matched a personal best for the rising senior at Lake Norman High School.

The effort came to compliment Evans’ second straight securing of the pole vault title when competing in the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s 4A class state championship meet held in late May.
