Jeremy McColl’s growing reputation as a pole vault savant has been enhanced by a dominant display from his national squad at the Australian athletics championships.

McColl’s Auckland-based Kiwi squad finished the Aussie champs with four gold medals, three silvers and two bronzes in the pole vault events at the week-long track and field extravaganza at Sydney’s Olympic Park.

Rio Olympic bronze medallist Eliza McCartney spearheaded the effort by winning the women’s event with a best leap of 4.50 metres − well shy of the PB, and Oceania record, 4.82m she cleared at the Auckland Track Challenge earlier this season.
