Even Bri Aveni admits her freshman season for the Mount Union track and field team didn’t go as planned.

“I never thought that I would make it this far, but now I’m her I want to keep going higher,” the freshman said after the Ohio Athletic Conference outdoor championships on Saturday.

Aveni, a Geneva, graduate, broke the school pole-vault with a mark of 12-feet, 4-inches on the first day of the conference championships Friday in Westerville. That also gave her first place.

“The outdoor season really wasn’t going as well as I wanted and I was working on a ton of technical stuff so that I could jump the heights I’ve been working for all year,” she said. “Meet day came and I felt really good in warm-ups and felt ready to jump and I finally put everything together and had a perfect meet.”
