George Jenkins senior Wyland “Steele” Alleva will continue his track and field in college as he signed with Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach. Alleva will be the third Polk County athlete on the men’s track and field team, joining Kathleen’s Terrence Bobet and Auburndale’s Calahan Warren.

In high school, Alleva competed in the pole vault, his best event, and both hurdles events. This past season in the pole vault, Alleva won the district title and also was third at the county and region meets and capped his high school career with a fourth-place finish at state.

Overall at George Jenkins, Alleva also won the district title in the pole vault as a junior, and was runner-up at the county, district and region meets as a sophomore. He competed for McKeel as a freshman when he won district and region titles.
