ASHBURNHAM — Oakmont Regional High senior Cassidy Callahan’s passion is pole vaulting and her dedication to the sport has helped put her on the path toward her dream job of becoming a rheumatologist.
Callahan, who tied the Oakmont school record of nine feet during the Spartans’ 101-43 season-opening victory over Gardner High on Thursday afternoon, will be able to indulge both passion projects starting this fall when she enrolls as an undergraduate at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pa.
“To be honest, it was primarily academic. I love to pole vault, but I’m going to college for school and so I was definitely looking for a small liberal arts school with a good chemistry program,” she said. “Gettysburg has a great science (department) and I definitely wanted to ensure they had a great pole vault program and they do. There is also a club that is nearby that has some great pole vault coaches.
