LODI — There was a time during Sam Wright’s junior year, during which he missed the entire track and field season after having hip surgery, that the Lodi High athlete truly didn’t know if he’d be able to return to the sport.
Today, he’s one of the top three pole vaulters in the entire country. And, at 12:30 p.m., he’s having a ceremony to signify his commitment to being a student-athlete for Harvard University.
It’s fair to say, then, that the Flames star has more than made up for lost time.
Wright, whose father is Lodi High head coach Greg Wright, has been around the sport his entire life. He tried pole vault for the first time around the fourth grade, he said, but didn’t start realizing his potential until a few years later.
