DEXTER TOWNSHIP —Matti Kilpelainen’s right leg functioned well enough to run and jump, thanks to a patchwork of sports medicine accessories.

“It’s like bubble gum,” he said of the array of products that covered nearly the entire leg.

Kilpelainen had kinesiology tape and a supportive sleeve on his knee, a compression wrap around his calf and a brace around his ankle.
