Landon Helms is no stranger to the podium stage at track and field events. That stage, however, continues to become more and more national for the Emmett High freshman.
Helms competed this past weekend at the New Balance Nationals Indoors in New York City. The only freshman in the Emerging Elite flight of the pole vault event, Helms placed fifth clearing 14 feet 10 inches. That came on the heels of a third-place finish at the Simplot Games in Pocatello in February with a 14-9 jump. All of this got started with a personal best 15-0 jump in a qualifier early this indoor season.
