ROCHELLE – Unseasonably cool temperatures and cruel winds gusting up to 20 mph greeted the hearty competitors, coaches and officials who were on the track and in the field, as well as spectators in the stands for the Northern Illinois Big 12 girls conference track and field championships on May 5 at Rochelle.

Junior Cierra Kuipers accounted for Kaneland’s lone 2017 conference champion, winning the pole vault at 11 feet, while senior teammate Lexie Guerra was second with a 10-foot clearance. In the triple jump, senior Maddie Kiefer was fourth with a jump of 33 feet, 1 inch.
