ROCK ISLAND — It is as if Alleman sophomore Tori Thomas already has an advertising slogan readily available should she ever become nationally pole-vault famous.
“Keep Going Higher!”
Those were the words Thomas proclaimed when asked whether she modifies her season goals after tying a second-straight Quad-Cities girls’ track & field invitational pole vault record. First was the Gene Shipley Invitational three weeks ago with a vault of 11 feet. Last Saturday, she tied the Rock Island Girls’ Invitational record with a 12-foot vault.
The personal best of this week’s Metro Pacesetter for the Dispatch-Argus-QCOnline is 12 feet, ¼ inch, set at last year’s sectional. Yet, after reaching 12 feet on Saturday, she and her coach, her dad Chad Thomas, had the bar placed at 12-4. She barely missed on each of three attempts there.
