It was during her freshmen year in the weight room where she would meet her future husband, Tom Swam, a member of Baylor’s pole vaulting team. He asked if she wanted to come and watch a practice and she agreed.
“I went out to practice and was jumping on the trampoline,” Bellard-Swan said. “The track coach came by and said ‘You can do flips?’ I told him that I was a gymnast before. He suggested I start pole vaulting and that was it. I started pole vaulting late in my freshman year in college.”
