Mondo Duplantis announced Monday he is leaving LSU to pursue a professional pole-vaulting career with the Swedish National team.
Duplantis — born and raised in Lafayette — has forgone his final three years of college eligibility for a professional sponsorship which will allow him to begin a professional career with lofty expectations. Duplantis has experienced international success in pole vaulting and he said he looks forward to competing for World and Olympic Championships over the next 16 months.
But not before he showed gratitude to everyone who helped and supported him at LSU.
“It’s all been a dream come true,” Duplantis said in a statement released to Twitter.
“I always dreamed of wearing purple and gold and I did, enjoying every single moment.”
