Luke Nelson broke the school record in the pole vault with a winning jump of 17 feet, 4¼ inches Saturday to highlight Illinois State performances in the Illini Invitational indoor track and field meet.
Nelson’s previous best was 16-8. He broke Chase Pavelonis’ previous school record of 17-3¾ set in 2015.
Ariana Cranston of ISU won the women’s pole vault with a personal-best of 13 feet, ¼-inch. The ISU women won the meet with 179 points. The Redbird men were second to host Illinois.
