South Brunswick coach Dan Mura has been around pole vaulting long enough to know exactly what it takes to create the ultimate high-flying Frankenstein.

No. 1 on his list makes the most sense.

Every great pole vaulter is a little crazy.

So Javier Santiago is the perfect fit. The South Brunswick junior got into pole vaulting because he loves Parkour. When he is not backflipping off of walls or swinging from the rafters of buildings, Santiago is flying over bars and crashing into the pole vault pit.

On Tuesday during day one of the Middlesex County Relays, Santiago put together a performance that brought tears to his coach’s eyes.
