Jake Justice is fearless.

That’s what makes him so effective in the pole vault, Polk County coach Alan Peoples said. Justice won the 1-A state championship in the pole vault this season and has earned the Times-News Boys’ Track Athlete of the Year.

To compete effectively in the pole vault, Peoples said, you have to not be afraid of heights, falling or failure.

“He’s not afraid of any of those,” the coach said.
