For the final indoor track and field meet of his high school career, Polk County senior Jake Justice put on quite a show on Saturday in Winston-Salem.
His record-setting performance not only earned him a trip to New York City for the 2019 New Balance Nationals, it also earned him this week’s Goldsmith by Rudi Prep Player of the Week award.
After officially winning the 2-A/1-A pole vault state title with a vault of 14 feet on Saturday for his second straight indoor pole vault title, Justice kept going. He missed 14-7 on his first try but cleared it on his second attempt to set the 2-A/1-A indoor meet record.
He wasn’t done yet. His coach, Henry Weaver, asked for the bar to be set at 14 feet, 10 inches, which is the qualifying standard for next month’s New Balance Nationals.
