On June 18, Erick Duffy put his name in a few record books, and solidified his spot as the best in his field event – in the country.

Duffy cleared 17-feet-1-inch in the pole vault at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals that day, finishing first. That was good for a North Andover High School record, a Massachusetts state record and a New England record.

Duffy was not only All-American in that event, but he also missed a second All-American honor by just one spot in the shuttle hurdles relay.

Right after the Nationals, Duffy left the country for a family vacation. The Citizen timed it perfectly and by chance caught him at Logan Airport just coming back from vacation for the following exclusive Q&A.
