GODFREY — Alton High pole vaulter Lauren Weiner is an author of sort and she’s developed the habit of rewriting her best efforts of late. Her subject has been the school pole vault record and in her case, it’s a mark definitely made to be broken.
Weiner, a junior, is in her third year as a pole vaulter. She’s become a welcome addition to the AHS girls track team since deciding as a freshman she wanted to “give pole vaulting a try.”
Weiner set her third AHS school record in as many meets Thursday at the Class 3A Sectional at O’Fallon – and in the process, she earned herself a trip to the IHSA Girls Track and Field Meet next week at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. She is one of five Redbirds athletes to advance to state, but the only pole vaulter to be sure.
