Vestal pole vaulter Johannes Stromhaug slipped past a 37-year-old Section 4 indoor track & field record in a meet Saturday at SUNY-Cortland.

Stromhaug, a senior, made his winter-season debut by clearing 15 feet, 5 inches. That bested by one-quarter inch the standard established in 1980 by Tom Yelverton of Susquehanna Valley — whose 16-1 vault in the spring of that year remains the outdoor sectional record.

Kari Stromhaug, Johannes’ sister, holds the girls’ indoor record (12-3, 2015).
