At his very first track and field meet, Luca Damian set the bar high for himself — literally. 

In March, Damian got his first taste of competition in the pole vault at the Don Green Invitational, finishing seventh out of 18 athletes with a height of 11 feet, 8 inches. Not bad for someone who had only been pole vaulting for a month. 

And it was no fluke. 

In the five months Damian has been competing in the sport, he has continued to excel. The rising senior at Malibu High took second in the Tri Valley League finals and not only qualified for the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section state meet, but also finished third with a height of 13 feet.
