KURTIS Marschall still shudders when he recalls the moment he was brought back to earth by a legendary coach who would later shape his destiny.

The SA youngster was two years into his pole vaulting career and had just finished third at the under-14 nationals when late mentor Alan Launder watched him train at Mile End.

“The first session he saw me out there, he absolutely grilled me,” Marschall, 20, remembered.
