SINTON — Tying for first in pole vault at the 4A area meet, brothers Tyler and Trey Rittiman flipped a coin.

Going with the childhood motto of “tails never fails,” older brother Tyler won the gold, and both qualified for the regional track meet in Kingsville on Saturday, April 27.

“We didn’t really want to jump, we were both moving on so we asked if we could flip a coin and they had to get officials, but we ended up flipping it,” Tyler said. “I’ve said ‘tails never fails’ since I was a kid and it didn’t let me down.”

“We should’ve jumped,” Trey added with a laugh.

Though Tyler has coin flipped before in a meet, the area meet was the first time he flipped with his younger brother.
