SOMERS, N.Y.-Everyone was packing up to go home after a long night competing in the Westchester County Championship meet at the Armory in New York City, but Somers pole vaulter Michael Altieri was not finished.

Altieri was the last competitor still out there on the track as he stared at the pole vault bar 13 feet in the air. He had already won the event, but he raised the bar to 13 feet and took aim at a personal record. He didn’t make it, but he walked away as the Westchester County indoor pole vault champion.
