AUSTIN – The fans near the pole vault pit clapped in unison and cheered on Rankin junior Calen Fouts, hoping to witness a special feat Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Fouts had already cleared the bar at 15 feet, and was attempting to make history.

On his third and final try, Fouts delivered by setting a new Class 1A state meet record with a height of 15-3 ½ inches to win the boys pole vault at the UIL State Track and Field Championships.
