Eliza McCartney became a household name after the 19-year-old won bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics in pole vault.
Many people have seen what McCartney did in Rio and have decided to give pole vaulting a crack.
The new breed of pole vaulters are being trained by Doug Balcob, who was named as a United States Olympic trialist in 1960, but injury ruled him out of contention.
Balcob believes the key to being good at pole vault is courage,
“There is no lack of courage in New Zealand,” he says.
