Washburn Rural senior Zac Chandler took up the pole vault on a challenge from Junior Blues coach Ryan Pfeifer a little over two years ago.

In Thursday’s Jerry Beardslee Invitational, Chandler etched his name in Rural track and field history, clearing 15 feet, 1 inch to break the Junior Blues’ 24-year-old school record, previously held by Mike Blakeley, who went 15-0 in 1994.
