A-10 Student-Athletes Earn All-American Honors at 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships

hree Atlantic 10 Conference Student-Athletes were named All-Americans based on their performance at this past weekend’s 2014 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. George Mason’s Mandissa Marshall (Pole Vault) was named First Team All-American, while La Salle’s Meghan McGlinchey (5,000 meters) and VCU’s Kiara Porter (400 meters) were named Second Team All-Americans.

Marshall, a senior from Mountain Top, Pa., wrapped up her indoor season with an eighth place finish at the NCAA Track and Field Indoor National Championships with a height of 4.25m (13’11 ¼) and was named to the Indoor Track and Field All-American First team. Marshall became the first female NCAA pole vault All-American at Mason and is also the first female to earn points at the NCAA championships in pole vault.

McGlinchey, a senior from West Deptford, N.J., ran a 17:07.87 in the 5,000 meters on Friday evening at the NCAA Track & Field Indoor Championships, finishing 15th while achieving Second-Team All-American status. The senior becomes just the second Explorer female in history to earn an All-American distinction, joining Theresa Carroll (1998). McGlinchey also broke a pair of Atlantic 10 Conference Championship records in the 5,000 meters (16:27.58) and the 3,000 meters (9:28.43) at the 2014 A-10 Championships and was named the Most Outstanding Female Track Performer.

Porter, a junior from Yorktown, Pa., was also named Second Team All-American and earned All-American status for the second consecutive season after recording a 13th place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 53.13. Porter is now the first Ram since Maria Elena Calle in 1999 to earn All-American status in back-to-back seasons.
