A Sensational Festival of Pole Vaulting

The annual late season JD Memorial Pole Vault Extravaganza continues to amaze as well as shake up The Power of 10 Rankings!  If you have ever wondered about the future of British pole vaulting… it was certainly alive and kicking and in great form in Carshalton on Sunday 29th September.

87 Pole Vaulters competed in the seventh edition of The Jim Day Memorial Pole Vault Competition and the performances, as has become an end of season tradition, were astonishing; the final figures are simply stunning:

  • 87 Competitors took part.
  • 27 athletes produced 53 Lifetime Best clearances.
  • A further 24 athletes achieved indoor Personal Bests.
  • 60% of all the Competitors jumped higher than they have ever done indoors.
  • 63 of the 87 competitors achieved, Seasons Bests, Indoor Bests or Lifetime Bests (73%).
  • Several athletes lifted themselves to the top of UK Age Group Rankings.
  • Dozens of other competitors also attempted lifetime best heights.
  • We also saw 3 British (Age Group) records.

British Indoor Records were set by Jack Harris (U13), Sue Yeomans (W60 and Allan Williams (M60).  There were so many fantastic performances along with some impressive personal triumphs.  Congratulations to coach Rick Pilling – every one of his Vaulters achieved Indoor Personal Best Performances.  Many thanks to all the volunteers and sponsors who supported and ensured this event ran smoothly.
