Anderson turns to pole vaulting to boost her mental stamina

Sarah Anderson describes herself as a utility player when it comes to athletics. By the time she hit high school she’d tried volleyball, softball, gymnastics and soccer. She said she was too short for volleyball and too small for softball. But then this new sport of pole vaulting was introduced during her junior year, and she figured she’d give it a try.

“My attitude is very different than it was in my 20s,” she said. “Now it’s something just for me. I don’t put all the pressure on myself to perform. It’s a joyful pursuit. It feeds my soul.”
