ANDOVER — Audrey Tarbox thought she was done when the pole vault height reached 10-3 at New Englands.
After all, the Andover High junior’s career-best vault was 9-6, a height she set last spring and struggled to match again this season.
“I was just thrilled to set a new PR (personal record) of 9-9,” she said. “After that, I thought I was done. I really didn’t think I could even make 10 feet. But I made my next jump, and it just kept going from there. It was crazy.”
Seeded 20th overall, Tarbox came out of nowhere to take sixth in the pole vault at the New England Track and Field Championship on Saturday with a stellar 10-9, the best vault for a Massachusetts athlete.
