Andy Sutcliffe will be doing packing of a different kind in the next couple of days after being drafted into Great Britain’s European Championship squad.
The Dukinfield-based pole vaulter is preparing to move house later this month.
But that’s now on hold for the time being as he prepares to decamp to Gateshead and join his new British team-mates.
Sale Harrier Sutcliffe (pictured), a former world junior bronze medalist, is a late call-up after British No.1 Steve Lewis withdrew with a shin problem.
“I saw Steve had been named in the team last week so I was really shocked when I got the call,” said the Tameside star.
“It will be my first proper senior vest so I am really excited. And it’s the first major outdoor meeting in this country since the Olympics, so I am sure that it will generate a lot of interest.”
