ASU indoor track athletes preparing for Saturday’s EIU meet

JONESBORO, Ark. (ASU) – The Arkansas State University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams resume action following the holiday break and will make their 2013 debut this Saturday (Jan. 19) as the Red Wolves take part in the Eastern Illinois (EIU) John Craft Invitational in Charleston, Ill.

ASU will have athletes competing in the pole vault, multi events and throws only for the men’s and women’s competition.

“We are sending our throwers and vaulters for an early season meet at Eastern Illinois and are looking forward to getting started with that group,” said second-year ASU head coach Jim Patchell.

“The rest of the team will open up next weekend at home (A-State Invitational). We have a good group this year and are excited about our possibilities as a team.”

The meet will be held at Lantz Indoor Fieldhouse on the EIU campus. Field events start at 9 a.m. (CT) with the running events to follow at 11 a.m.
Arkansas State along with Greenville College (Ill.), Memphis, and host Eastern Illinois are the men’s teams slated to compete while the women’s squads include ASU and Eastern Illinois.

The Red Wolves haven’t competed in over a month since the 2012 ASU Kickoff Klassic, which was held Dec. 2 in Jonesboro.

Following this Saturday’s meet, the Red Wolves will host the A-State Invitational on Friday, Jan. 25, at the ASU Convocation Center in Jonesboro. The field events get underway at 10 a.m. (CT) while the running events commence at 11 a.m.

Arkansas State is also hosting the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track Championships to be held Feb. 24-25 at the ASU Convocation Center in Jonesboro.
