Athletes to take to the street for pole vaulting exhibition Aug. 10

The third annual Gardner Street Pole Vault will get underway Saturday, Aug. 10 in the north parking lot of Gardner Elementary.
The  vaulting competition begins at 1 p.m. and will continue until all vaulters are out. Starting height is 4’6” and the bar will be raised at six-inch intervals until no competitors remain. Particpants paid $35 to participate, but there will be no cost for spectators.
A special bungy jump for the younger kids will also be on site from noon to 12:30 p.m.
Heading the field will be former Gardner Edgerton Hgih School Casey Bowen. Bowen, now a junior at University of Kansas, recently placed second in the Big 12 pole vaulting competition, and he also qualified for the NCAA national competition.

Joining Bowen will be Alex Bishop, Ethan Pearson of Witchita State, and high school standout Jayce Phelps- the defending 4-A state champion and two-time 5-A state champ of Bishop Carroll.
Also included will be Abbey Buie, sixth place state finisher, Kyle Stubler and Davis Tropansky.
Approximately 50 vaulters will be featured with an elite vault competition running from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
