European Indoor pole vault champion Holly Bleasdale plans to return to international competition at the World Indoor Championships early next year.
The 21-year-old missed July’s European U23 Championships and then the World Championships in Moscow with Achilles and back injuries.
But swift progress in her rehabilitation programme, whiich has included making postural changes to safeguard against further back problems, should see her compete in Poland in March.
“It was really hard,” Bleasdale said. “I couldn’t go to the under-23s to retain my title. Then at the worlds I felt I could have been up there in the mix whereas I was sat at home.
“Next year I am going to the world indoors (in Poland) and then I am going to push the Commonwealth Games and European Championships.
“It will be busy but I am hungry to get back competing.”
Training full-time in Cardiff under Scott Simpson after a spell splitting her
time between Wales and Arizona has also proved beneficial.
“(Cardiff) is where I want to be,” she added. “Being out there for six, eight weeks at a time was really difficult. I love being here.”
