After less than two years in track and field Johanna Volos is already a state record holder.
A Pymble Ladies college student, Johanna Volos has enjoyed a great start to the season winning the 14 years NSW All Schools pole vault last October with a record equalling height of 3.00 metres.
Volo has made a successful transition from another sport into track and field.
“Before pole vault I did elite gymnastics and retired after Level 10,” said the Ryde club athlete.
The transition between these two sports in not uncommon as they have similar aspects.
“What I like about pole vault is the feeling of flying through the air.”
Volos is coached by former world indoor pole vault medallist, Zsuzsa Olgyay-Szabo at Homebush in Sydney.
New to the sport Volos has enjoyed her start in the sport.
“I have found the community and everyone so supportive and caring.”
Her family participate in a variety of sports.
“My two sisters do athletics and soccer and I also do Touch Football.”
“My goals for Townsville is to PB and try get a medal.”
