OTTAWA — The life and times of Shawn Barber have been filled with crazy twists and turns, along with a whole lot of controversy thrown in for good measure.
Yet Canada’s reigning world champion in the pole vault is doing his best to spin a positive mindset through it all, despite what has been a disappointing season to date and what he calls a “mediocre” confidence level.
“Life is ups and downs, pole vault is ups and downs,” Barber said after winning the gold medal Sunday at the Canadian Track and Field Championships with a somewhat pedestrian mark of 5.40. “I’m just along for the ride. I’m enjoying every minute of it.”
