ROME, Ga. – James Blackwell won the pole vault title to lead the Yellow Jackets on the first day of action at the NCCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship hosted by Shorter University.

Blackwell took first place by clearing 16-feet 4.75-inches (5.0 meters). The senior from Clare, Mich. is a two-time NCCAA decathlon champion and was the indoor pole vault champ this past winter.

Aaron Sturgeon placed fifth in the pole vault at 13-7.25 (4.15m). Samuel Tvardzik was third in the high jump with a mark of 6-4 (1.93m).

Blackwell advanced to the finals of the 110 meter hurdles. Andre Klaassen moved on to the finals in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes.

Action resumes Saturday with the field events at 10:30 a.m. EDT and track events at 11:00.
