It’s been a frustrating track and field season for Davis High’s Elena Siemens.

With a nagging knee injury from last fall holding her back, the reigning Sac-Joaquin Section pole vault queen has been operating on a restricted training regimen most of the spring … which only makes the junior aerial artist’s accomplishments thus far in 2019 all the more impressive …

Headed down to Buchanan High in Clovis this weekend to represent the Blue Devils at the CIF State Track and Field Championships, Siemens has yet another SJS pole vault crown in tow after vaulting 11-03 at Tokay High on May 8. That, coming just a few days after she’d set a new DHS benchmark in the event following her 12-foot leap that topped the competition at the Delta League Championships.

“Getting that one felt really good,” Siemens says. “I’d only jumped over 11 three times before and nothing higher. And the next girl in the event was already out, so I knew I could put the bar wherever I wanted, so I decided to just go for it and the PR.”
