Boyd pulls pin on Russia

Two-time Olympian Alana Boyd has succumbed to a niggling leg injury and withdrawn from next month’s World Athletics Championships in Russia.

Having struggled in her past three meets, the 29-year-old pole vaulter has made the painful the decision to pull the plug on her world title campaign.

The Alexandra Headland athlete has been managing a knee and achilles problem over the past few months and fears further injury.

She is to consult a specialist in London next week to determine if she will undergo surgery.
