Buck Grabs Pole Vault Crown with Provisional Mark at Greyhound Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior Lanny Buck (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton) took first place and upgraded his NCAA-provisional mark in the pole vault to highlight the Kutztown University men’s track and field team’s performance at the Greyhound Invitational this weekend, hosted by Moravian College.
 
Overall, the Golden Bears posted 10 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) marks, including eight new-qualifying marks.
 
Buck vaulted a season-best 4.95-meters, surpassing the NCAA-provisional standard of 4.76-meters for the second time this season. After today, Buck ranks 18th in Division II this season. Sean Burns (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) placed ninth in the pole vault with an existing mark (4.25m).
 
After qualifying in the preliminaries, Quran Cason (Philadelphia, PA/Carver E&S) went on to place third and upgrade his PSAC mark in the 100 finals (11.01).
 
Matt Devlin (Lititz, PA/Warwick) qualified in the 800, placing third in a career-best 1:55.18.Devonte King (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) was not far behind in 11th, also running a career-best (1:57.97).
 
Tyler Matunis (Girardville, PA/North Schuylkill)‘ 15.85 in the 110 hurdles prelims was a PSAC-existing mark and advanced him into the finals (7th).
 
Tyler Brooks (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) had a solid day as he readjusts to competition after injury. Brooks qualified in both the triple and long jumps, placing second in the triple (13.66m) and third in the long (6.80m).
 
In the field, all three KU throwers qualified in one event. In the hammer throw, Tyler Rolshausen (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Blue Mountain) placed third with a season-best 48.91-meters and Chris Varichione (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) threw a career-best 45.94-meters to place seventh. Brendan Lamy (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) threw a season-best 14.56m to place sixth in the shot put.
 
Some members of the Golden Bears will compete in the 120th running of the Penn Relays this week (April 24-25), as the rest of the team will travel to Shippensburg University for the Paul Kaiser Invite on Saturday, April 26. It will be the team’s final meet before the PSAC Championships beginning on Thursday, May 1 at Shippensburg.
