Athlete of the Year: Garrett Silva, Senior, California
Track and field athletes interested in competing in the pole vault often do not get their first chance at the event until they enter high school. Missing just one season can be detrimental to being successful.
Garrett Silva missed his junior season because of issues away from the athletic field; he could not compete in meets for California High School.
But Silva returned to California’s track and field program for his senior season and had a big finish. Silva advanced to the CIF State meet in Clovis.
