Capital pole vaulter wins award as top track athlete in WV

CHARLESTON – Record-breaking Capital High School pole vaulter Tristan Slater, now competing at the University of Tennessee, was selected as the male Ray McCoy Award winner for 2016 by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association as the state’s top track and field/cross country athlete.

The award is named for the late Ray McCoy, a longtime Huntington High coach.
